The Office of the University Registrar will provide an official transcript of a student’s academic record issued directly to the student or to a third party provided the student has given proper authorization to the Registrar’s Office.

Transcripts can be ordered online by current students and alumni of the university. Online transcript ordering is convenient, can be done from any location 24/7, and provides emails to inform students/alumni on the status of their request.

  • The fee for an official transcript is $9.25 ($7.00 for the transcript and an additional $2.25 processing fee which goes to the NSC). Payment information is submitted through the online request. Charges are not applied to the credit card until the transcript is sent.

  • FedEx delivery is an additional $15 per domestic location or $30 per international location.

Official transcripts are printed on University transcript paper and include the Registrar’s signature and University Seal. Official transcripts issued directly to students/alumni are in a sealed envelope with the Registrar’s signature across the back flap. See the How To Order a Transcript section for instructions on ordering an official transcript.

For information on unofficial transcripts, see the How To Order a Transcript section.

If picking up the transcript order in person, a student must show photo identification upon receipt.

Important: If anyone other than the student/alumnus/alumna will be picking up the transcript(s), authorization must come directly from the student/alumnus/alumna prior to pickup, and the individual must show photo identification upon receipt.

If the student/alumnus/alumna do need another individual to pick up their transcript request, they should include that instruction in the “Special Instructions” section when placing the online order.

Students who pay expedited charges are selecting Federal Express delivery rather than US Postal Service delivery. For orders that have been submitted to be sent via Federal Express paying for expedited delivery will not guarantee faster processing of the request, but we will make every effort to process these orders within a week.

Note: The Office of the University Registrar will not process any transcript requests from students who have an outstanding balance or unfulfilled obligation to the University.

Note: The Office of the University Registrar does not offer electronic transcripts at this time.

If you have any questions about ordering a transcript, contact us via email at transcript@unc.edu

How long will my transcript request take to be processed?

Due to the substantial volume of transcript orders at this time, please allow 2 weeks processing time. Your transcript order is important to us and we are working as quickly as possible to fill the requests in the order they are received. If this is your first request for a transcript in the new system, additional time is needed for validation.

When you place your order online through the National Student Clearinghouse, you will be notified as soon as the transcript has been sent. If it has been more than two weeks since you placed your order and you need to check on the status, please email us at transcript@unc.edu. If it has not yet been two weeks, please allow us the additional processing time before contacting us again.

For orders that have been submitted to be sent via Federal Express, please allow 1 week processing time, although we will make every effort to send these in less than this suggested time.

If you are a current student and an unofficial transcript will meet your need, you have access through your Student Center to produce an internal transcript immediately. To do this, choose the Transcript: View Int option from the drop-down menu under the Academics section.
