Order a Transcript

Types of Transcripts

Which transcript fits your needs? First, learn about the two options:

Official Transcripts: They are used for formal purposes, such as applying to other institutions, jobs, or scholarships. Official transcripts are sent directly to the requesting party to maintain their integrity. These are official documents issued by Parchment on behalf of UNC-Chapel Hill and are sealed to verify their authenticity.

Unofficial Transcripts: While they contain the same academic information as official transcripts, they lack the official seal, signature, or certification and are used mainly for personal reference or informal purposes. These are accessible to students through their ConnectCarolina portal and can be printed or viewed at any time.

Need Your Student ID?

You will be asked for your PID (student ID) when placing your transcript order. If you do not know your student ID, visit the UNC PID Office search engine.

Order Official Transcripts

All official transcript orders are processed through Parchment. Select from the list below to see ordering instructions based on your student status.

  • Visit ConnectCarolina and login.
  • Select Order an Official Transcript under the My Academics section in the Student Center. If the link does not open for you, it may be due to your browser’s pop-up blocker; try turning that off, reloading the page, and selecting the link again.
  • Place your order on the Parchment website. Complete all the steps in the ordering process to submit your order.

Note: If you are ordering your official transcript at or near the completion of a course or courses, please wait to order until final grades are reported or choose the “Hold for Grades” option when placing.

Unofficial Transcripts

Your unofficial or "internal" transcript is accessible through your ConnectCarolina Student Center. Select from the list below to see ordering instructions based on your student status.

  • Visit ConnectCarolina and login.
  • Select View my internal transcript under the My Academics section in the Student Center. If the view my internal transcript link does not open for you, it is likely due to your browser’s pop-up blocker; try turning that off, reloading the page, and clicking on the link again.
  • Please note: School of Medicine students are unable to generate their own unofficial transcripts and must request this information from them directly.
  • Copy and paste all information from the pop-up containing your internal transcript into a separate document (such as Microsoft Word). We recommend using the paste option “Keep Text Only” when pasting your internal transcript.
  • Save the document as needed. This is considered your unofficial transcript at UNC-CH.

If you have any questions about this, feel free to contact us at registrar@registrar.unc.edu.

As an alumnus, alumna, or former student, you can access an unofficial transcript through the ConnectCarolina Student Center. Unofficial transcripts are printable and can also be saved as a PDF (please see step 9 below).   In order to access the Student Center, you will have to create a Guest ID. (Or, if you already have a Guest ID, proceed to step 2)

To set up a Guest ID:

  1. Visit the UNC GuestID Registration page.
  2. Create your GuestID by following the form’s instructions. If you encounter issues creating your GuestID (e.g. you receive a message saying that no records were found for you, or that you already have a Guest ID [but you don’t know it and/or its password]), the ITS Help Desk can assist if you contact them at (919) 962-HELP (962-4357) or via an online help ticket.
  3. Visit ConnectCarolina
  4. Select LOGIN
  5. Enter your GuestID and password.
  6. Select the Self-Service button at the top of the left sidebar
  7. Select the Student Center link from the menu that will pop up.
  8. Note: If you don’t see a Student Center link here, it’s probably because you only recently created your Guest ID. It is normal for it to take up to 30 minutes for the “Student Center” link to show up after the first time you log in, so if you don’t see it, we recommend logging out and then back in after the full 30 minutes have passed. If it’s still not showing up after that point, we recommend contacting our ITS office at (919) 962-4357 [962-HELP] or at one of the online help options available.
  9. Select the My Academics link in the Academics area of your Student Center
  10. Select the View my internal transcript link from the My Academics page.Select the View my internal transcript link from the My Academics page
Important: If the “View my internal transcript” link does not open for you, it is likely due to your browser’s pop-up blocker; try turning that off, reloading the page, and clicking on the link again.
  11. The internal transcript will be displayed.

If you have any questions about this, feel free to contact us at registrar@registrar.unc.edu.

Students with enrollment prior to Fall 2010

If you have enrollment prior to Fall 2010 and have not obtained a transcript from us since then, your record will likely need to be validated before your transcript can be released. This means you will not be able to view your unofficial transcript in ConnectCarolina or have an official transcript order processed until validation is cleared within 3 business days. This is a one-time process that will not impact transcript access in the future once complete.

If you attempt to access your internal transcript, you will receive an error message saying “Report not created. Negative service indicator exists.”  If you place an official transcript order you will be notified of a hold on your record requiring validation. When you receive these messages, it means the system has logged your attempt to obtain your transcript and your records have been put into our validation queue. No further action is required as our validation team handles the rest!

enrollments prior to Fall 2010 need to be validated before access to the internal transcript can be granted
