An enrollment appointment is the date and time you are assigned to begin registering for classes in the upcoming term. Registration dates are listed on the Academic Calendar and you may locate your enrollment appointment in ConnectCarolina through the following steps. Once your enrollment appointment opens, registration will be available to you any time until it closes. Please refer to the information listed under your student classification below for further information.

  1. Log into ConnectCarolina and select the Student Center tile.
  2. Navigate to the “Enrollment Dates” box on the righthand side and click “Details”.
  3. Select the term to view your assigned enrollment appointment.

Graduate Students

Students enrolled thought the Graduate School or Professional Schools are assigned enrollment appointments in collaboration with their program. Graduate and Professional students may register and waitlist for classes any time after their enrollment appointment start time through the 5th day of classes for that term.

Undergraduate Students

Undergraduate students register for classes in two waves with an enrollment appointment assigned to each one.

  • During Wave 1 students can register for up to 13 credit hours.
  • During Wave 2 students can register for up to 17 credit hours, and additionally waitlist for up to 12 credit hours. Waitlist hours are separate from total enrolled hours.
  • Open Enrollment begins after Wave 2. Students can register for up to 18 credit hours up until the deadline on the 5th day of classes in the term.

Enrollment appointments open every 3 hours beginning at 7:00 a.m., 10:00 a.m., 1:00 p.m., and 4:00 p.m. Once a registration appointment opens, students can adjust their schedules until the end of the given wave. Students can use the Tarheel Tracker to calculate the credit hours used to assign their registration date. Under degree requirements is “Calculated Hours for Registration.” This section calculates the number of credit hours a student has that determines their day of registration. The hours here are different from the degree applicable hours. To determine a student’s day of registration, credit hours are calculated as follows:

    • All hours completed while in residence at UNC
    • UNC-accepted transfer credit hours
    • Completed and posted study abroad credits
    • By-examination (BE) and placement (PL) credits are excluded
    • Current term and all in-progress hours are excluded

Student Groups

  • Students in groups approved by the Priority Registration Advisory Committee (PRAC) to receive priority registration will register on the first day of each wave. Registration appointments will be assigned based on terms in residence.
  • Students in the Honors Program will automatically be assigned the 7:00 a.m. registration appointment on the day they register.

Registration Tips

  • Remember to check for holds on your record that will prevent registration prior to the start of your enrollment appointment. If you have one or more of these holds on your record, you will not be able to enroll until they are removed.
  • Meet with an advisor for guidance on degree planning as needed. If your major department requires approval from an advisor to register for the upcoming term, a hold will be placed on your record and it must be removed before you can enroll.
  • If you are graduating at the end of the current term and have not been officially admitted into a new program at UNC-Chapel Hill for the next one, you will not be activated to register.
  • Review the Registration and Enrollment FAQs for more information on registration processes.
